Parents & Family
Parents can play an important role in a student's ultimate success and career satisfaction by keeping them motivated and on track with their career goals. We encourage students to be engaged with their career development throughout their time at Appalachian State. You can support your student by encouraging them to:

Start Early
It's never too early to start thinking about career development. Encourage your student to visit the Career Development Center the moment they arrive at Appalachian State to discuss first steps. Then, have them check in with us regularly throughout their time here to ensure they are on a path to success.

Build Experience
Gaining valuable work experience while attending school is a great way to build up a resume. Securing an internship, working part-time, or volunteering significantly improves your student's chances of getting hired after graduation. Have your student contact Student Employment for questions about available opportunities.

Get Involved
In addition to getting involved with clubs and student organizations, there are several opportunities for your student to meet and network with employers who are hiring. Career events, information sessions, and workshops are held throughout the year to connect students with employers.
