Aportfolio
The ultimate goal of the students' Aportfolio is to intentionally document learning and to design a positive digital presence for a professional audience. Appalachian State students and faculty use Aportfolios for multiple purposes in the context of a class, program, major, research project, international experience or career search.
Big Interview
We are pleased to offer you a free training system that features a new and innovative way to help you prepare more effectively for a job interview. Big Interview is an online system that combines training AND practice to help improve your interview technique and build your confidence.
Buzzfile
Buzzfile is a comprehensive database (external to ASU) that provides information on employers by major. Students can select their major or majors they are exploring, their desired geographic region(s) and view a list of employers that hire this major. Students can select the employer name and receive an overview of company information.

Career Exploration Profile
Brainstorm who you are to discover and map out interests, skills, values and personality. This activity is typically complete before completing our self-assessment inventories.
Focus 2 Career
FOCUS 2 CAREER guides you through a reliable, intuitive career and education decision making model to help you choose majors offered at Appalachian State, explore occupations and make informed career decisions. This tool will engage you in the career planning process and help you plan for and achieve career success throughout your lifetime.
Four-Year/Transfer Career Plan
With every academic major and minor, there is a checklist or "blueprint" on how to be successful in that career path. However, most students do not think about their career plan or a road map that will help with maintaining their career readiness and update those skills every year. Students who utilize our Four-Year and Transfer Career Plans are provided with a complete lineup of when they need to complete a piece of their road map.
Handshake
Handshake serves as our online career services portal that provides easy access to job and internship postings, on-campus recruiting, career fairs, employer contact information and scheduling coaching appointments. It connects current students and alumni with potential employers to help build meaningful careers.
MBTI Career Report
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)® Career Report shows students how their personality type affects their career exploration, preferred work tasks and work environments—as well as most popular and least popular occupations—for any type, and offers strategies for improving job satisfaction.
Mountaineer Career Passport
In your Mountaineer Career Passport, you will find advice and guidance from the professionals at the Career Development Center to help you with your identity development and ultimately, your path to finding fulfilling work.
National Job/Internship Listing Sites
The Career Development Center is subscribed to several national job and internship listing sites for students and alumni to use when searching for opportunities. These sites are excellent resources for finding opportunities in a variety of industries.
NC Tower
NC Tower provides graphs and tables of in-depth information on employment rates, wages, and ongoing higher education enrollment of graduates from the North Carolina Community College System and from University of North Carolina system schools.
O*NET OnLine
O*NET OnLine is a career exploration and job analysis tool that has detailed descriptions of the world of work for use by job seekers, workforce development and HR professionals, students, researchers, and more! Discover specific job duties and responsibilities, job outlook/salary, educational/training requirements, relevant skills and more.
Occupational Outlook Handbook
The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) is a resource of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that provides up to date information on job outlook and employment. Students can research job titles based on industry, keyword, salary, growth rate, and education level.

The Career Development Center staff are available to facilitate on-campus presentations to classes, clubs, residence hall or other campus organizations. We present on a variety of topics including career exploration, resumes, job searching, networking, interviewing and more.

Schedule an Appointment
Current students have a dedicated career coach for their department and can receive coaching on a variety of career development topics. Appointments may have varying time lengths, but must be requested ahead of time via Handshake. You will receive an email confirmation once you have scheduled the appointment from Handshake.
Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong Interest Inventory® instrument is a tool that can help college students make satisfying decisions about their career and education. Understanding their Strong Profiles can help them identify a career focus and begin their career planning and exploration process. The Strong measures interests, not skills or abilities. The results can help guide students toward careers, work activities, education programs, and leisure activities—all based on their interests.
The Guide to Your Career: A Career Readiness Handbook for Students
By utilizing The Guide to Your Career: A Career Readiness Handbook for Students, students can identify specific skills to develop a career path towards experiential opportunities. This career readiness handbook provides students various key tips and tricks to promote career readiness as a student and beyond.
Value Card Sort
Career values are the characteristics of a work/life environment that an individual deems important. Values cover a broad range of topics from geographic location to aesthetics. Values can be a determining factor in career choice. Values that are compromised can lead to stress in the work environment and sometimes lead to a complete job or career change. The Values Card Sort is used with the Career Exploration Profile to identify students' top 10 values.
