Dr. Susan McCracken
Director of Career Development and Economic Engagement
Susan McCracken has been fortunate enough to earn three degrees from Appalachian and make her home in Boone for over 30 years. Since 1992, she has worked at Appalachian in a variety of roles — college access with Upward Bound and GEAR UP for 18 years, research and grants, state and federal government affairs, and now here in the Career Development Center. As the Director of Career Development and Economic Engagement, Susan oversees the day-to-day operations of the Career Development Center and serves as the university's point of contact for economic development.
What Susan enjoys most about working in Career Development is that our office focuses on working in the world of possibility, dreams, and opportunity. Career Development is Identity Development. She loves talking to students about what they enjoy about their life now and what want their life to be after graduation. Who is it that you want to be? What kind of work or graduate school helps you achieve that? What kind of community do you want to live? How do you want to engage in your community? Being able to answer these questions and connect them to your skills and experiences can set you up for a successful transition from Appalachian to the "real world."
