Career Development's Updated Services and Resources

The Career Development Center wants to ensure you have access to all services students need for your career planning during a time of uncertainty. Starting the semester our staff are not available for in-person meetings but we are 100% available via email, phone, or Zoom. Employers continue to advertise their hiring needs and participate in virtual career fairs. We have adapted many existing services for online delivery and have implemented new workshops and events that are offered via Zoom. We hope you will utilize all these resources.

For your safety and that of your community, we encourage everyone to monitor the App State coronavirus information page for updates, review steps recommended by the CDC to prevent the spread of illness, and refer to this page for the latest updates regarding Career Development.

Companies Actively Hiring
The Career Development Center continues to receive hundreds of postings for jobs monthly. We also continue to approve approximately 20-25 new employers a week. The weekly Mountains of Possibility email will highlight some of those positions, but you should check Handshake frequently for the most current internship and job postings. If you are planning to graduate in December, we strongly encourage you to watch one of the recorded Career Meetups on job search strategies and to make an appointment with your Career Coach early in the semester. The job market is very unpredictable right now and it is in your best interest to be proactive as you plan your job search.

  • Nationally
There's no doubt that COVID-19 has impacted the workforce, but that isn't stopping many companies from continuing to fill new positions during this challenging time. Take a look to see what companies are hiring across all 50 states and then find their opportunities in Handshake.
  • Statewide
Businesses in North Carolina are continuing to hire and connect workers with jobs. Click here to view the companies that are currently hiring at one or multiple locations across North Carolina.

Career Fairs and Events
Employers are searching for talented individuals to hire for their open positions. In an effort to continue providing meaningful avenues for students to connect with employers, explore interests, and secure employment in this virtual environment, we are offering our events via Handshake and Zoom this semester. Check out our upcoming events and register to attend!

Virtual Career Meetups
In helping students think about their career planning, we are hosting various virtual Career Meetups. Starting the week of August 31, there will be two Career Meetups per week. We will offer a Career Meetup on a general career topic such as Resume and Cover Letters, LinkedIn, Using Handshake, and/or Job Search Strategy. There will be a second Career Meetup each week that will highlight niche employers, connect students with alumni, and address the unique career and professional needs of students from traditionally marginalized and underrepresented communities. Topics will be announced one week in advance at as well via social media.

All students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Career Studio
Career Studio will be offered virtually via Zoom. Please visit our Career Studio page for times and the Zoom room link. You can still email your resume or cover letter to be reviewed at

Appointments with Career Coaches
All appointments scheduled are scheduled in Handshake and will be conducted through Zoom, with the meeting link being provided in your appointment confirmation email. It is our goal that later in the semester we will be able to provide in-person appointments on a limited basis.

Student Employment
Student Employment is currently closed to walk-in traffic. Students who need to have their paperwork processed should schedule an appointment through Handshake.
