Career Development Coronavirus Information
Appalachian State University has been intently following the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Following the University update, the Career Development Center wants to make you aware of changes to our services to ensure all your Career Services needs are being met. We hope that you use our resources for your career planning.
We encourage everyone to monitor the App State coronavirus information page for updates, review steps recommended by the CDC to prevent the spread of illness, and refer to this page for the latest updates regarding Career Development.
Career Fairs and Events
We have received instruction from the UNC system to cancel or postpone all events of more than 100 people. Therefore the following career fairs and events have been canceled or postponed:
- Walker Spring Connect - CANCELLED
- Education Career Fair - POSTPONED (reschedule information coming soon)
- Look Smart Professional Closet - CANCELLED
- Health Sciences Professional and Graduate School Fair - CANCELLED
- Talent Jam - Work It Watauga - CANCELLED
- Summer and Fall Jobs Fair - CANCELLED
- Cup of Brew and Resume Reviews - Now Virtual
Virtual Career Meetups
Starting March 30, we will be hosting at least 2 virtual Career Meetups each day through the rest of the semester. Topics will include Resume and Cover Letters, LinkedIn, Handshake, Salary Negotiation, Job Searching, Choosing a Major, and many more. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend. We want to help students who now have more time than before to think about their career planning. Explore these events in Handshake and join us for the ones that interest you. The Zoom meeting link is listed in the details of the event.
Starting March 23, Career Studio will be conducted through Zoom during regular Career Studio hours, Monday - Thursday between 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Students can join one of two Zoom meetings, one for each Career Guide, to get career assistance. When you join the meeting, you will automatically be placed into a waiting room until the Career Guide is available. Once ready, the Career Guide will move you from the waiting room into the meeting where you can communicate with them and get the career assistance you need.
Career Guides also offer resume and cover letter reviews via email. Email your resume or cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
All appointments scheduled are scheduled in Handshake and will be conducted through Zoom, with the meeting link being provided in your appointment confirmation email.

Career Exploration Virtual Drop-Ins
Career Exploration drop-ins will be held virtually on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00am - 2:00pm. These will be conducted through this Zoom meeting.

Anyone can file for unemployment insurance. In order to determine eligibility, you must first apply for unemployment.
